Explore the creation of Remembering the Future, a monumental installation commissioned by the MIT Museum, that was developed during Janet Echelman’s tenure as the 2022–24 Mellon Distinguished Visiting Artist at the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology. The work is on display at the MIT Museum through August 2027.
The artwork grew from an intensive research and development process in collaboration with architect, engineer, and MIT Associate Professor Caitlin Mueller and computational designer and MIT PhD student Adam Burke. The scientific models of MIT Lorenz Center Professor Raffaele Ferrari—including the En-ROADS simulator—served as a point of departure for the artist in creating the sculpture’s form.
The Remembering the Future project was produced through a collaborative partnership between the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology and the MIT Museum, and invites us to reflect on the climate narratives that shape our collective future.
